CBR Nation Alumni Shine as Team Ontario Opens Baseball Canada Cup with Thrilling Victory

SUMMERSIDE, PEI – Two CBR Nation alumni played pivotal roles in Team Ontario's opening game at the 2026 Baseball Canada Cup, 

SUMMERSIDE, PEI – Two CBR Nation alumni played pivotal roles in Team Ontario's opening game at the 2026 Baseball Canada Cup, helping secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Team Quebec to kick off the national championship in style. Representing Ontario on Canada's biggest stage for 17U baseball, Lucas Sproule and Brady Martynuik both earned starting assignments and wasted little time making their presence felt.

Sproule got the start at shortstop, anchoring the infield before being called upon to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game on the line, the hard-throwing right-hander delivered a dominant relief appearance, striking out three of the four batters he faced to slam the door on Quebec and secure the victory for Ontario.

For his outstanding two-way performance, Sproule was named Team Ontario's Player of the Game.

The win didn't come easily.

Ontario found itself trailing 2-1 late in the game before Martynuik delivered in one of the biggest moments of the afternoon. With runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning, Martynuik came through with a clutch RBI, tying the game at 2-2 and swinging the momentum back in Ontario's favor.

Just moments later, Brayden Matresky lifted a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run, giving Ontario a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame. That's when Sproule took over. Four batters. Three strikeouts. One statement victory.

The performance showcased exactly why both Sproule and Martynuik have become standout members of the CBR Nation family. Whether it was Martynuik delivering the timely offense or Sproule shutting the door with overpowering stuff on the mound, both athletes rose to the occasion when their team needed them most.
